Gap year

Gap year

The gap year system

The gap year system allows you to take a year between the two years of Master ( M1 & M2) to realise a professional project (internship, fixed-term contract, language stay), and can be carried out abroad. This project must be built and validated by the master's supervisor. For a gap period planned during year N, the project must be validated by the end of May N-1 at the latest.

The maximum duration of the gap covers an academic year during which a student registered at IAE temporarily suspends it in order to gain personal experience, either independently or within a host organisation, in France or abroad. It is carried out on the basis of a strict voluntary work of the student who commits to it. The student agrees to continue their education at the institution after the gap period.

Several Activities can give rise to a gap period

  • Volunteer activities within an association or an organisation
  • Training in a field different from that of the training in which the student is registered
  • Professional or academic mobility
  • A project to create an activity as a student-entrepreneur
  • Employment contract, Civic service, Internship

Process :

  • You define your personal project
  • You submit your project to the pedagogical manager (s) (M1 + M2)
  • If the project is validated, you do your gap year in N + 1 while maintaining student status
  • Back to school N + 2, you integrate the training which validated your project

To begin the administrative procedure after consultation the responsible of your Master's program, you must contact your school administrator according to the diploma you are pursuing.

Within the framework of a gap year, no mobility grant can be paid.
